Fiesta tonight so you can siesta tomorrow. That is the slogan of Spanish night life. Spanish people go out on Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights, and the college kids do Tuesdays as well. The drink deals are unreal, with all you can drink for a 1 euro until 1 am or 50 cent shots. They also don't mind having these deals for alcohol, but what is different in the US is they do not have water at the bars. You have to buy a bottle. Two nights ago, we were at a club and the bartender was handing out shots. I did not really want a shot- so I walked up to the bar and asked for some water, he told me it would be three euro. I then said no, just a cup of it, not a bottle, and he said they did not do that. I suppose it is because no one drives here so they do not need people to sober up.
This is also the weekend schedule as follows: Botelleon at about 11:30 in a plaza or on the street corner. Go to a club at about 2 (they don't get full until about 3, but there is usually a cover charge after 2 am, so we sacrifice and get there early). Then, the clubs are jam packed playing a mix of American Top 40 and Spanish techno and you rage from anywhere around 5 am to 7 am. They often eat breakfast on their way home from the bars. Last night, we were walking back at about 5:30 am and there were still lines to get into different clubs. Like, long lines. People, its after 5 in the morning- I got up for morning practice by then!
It is so different than American night life, the whole feel of it. And these clubs all do put American bars to shame. Many of them are outdoor patios that have a colorful light show, and they do not rely on strobe lights like the US. we went to another club that was literally on the river, like I could have jumped in the water. Anyway, I just had to formalize the differences and come to terms with the fact that my sleep schedule will be all over the place for the next 91 days.
