I finally found the only pool that has diving boards in Sevilla! Too bad it was closed for winter... even though it was 75 and sunny. If only those Sevillianos knew what it was like for Florida Training Trip. That'd be a walk in the park! It was kinda hard to find though, because the complex was so big! I wish I could have used the facility, but then again, I don't have to lose sleep over it because I'm...retired! Speaking of which, check out where GVSU is sitting on the national rankings. That's my team! We even beat MSU last week.
But here's the Sevilla pool, it looked like quite the paradise:
I also went on a run to the neighborhood called "La Macarena," which is encased within the original city walls of Al-Bab-Makrin, an Arab city. The wall was built in 1135 AD and the Almohades (which is where they get the neighborhood of Alameda) took good care of it during the 12 and 13th centuries. I love that I know the city well enough that I can head in a general direction and recognize where I am. I didn't actually know where the wall was, I just knew which bridge it was near. Sure enough, I found it after help from some lovely locals. There it is, a Medieval fortress wall, just sitting in the middle of the city. Many of the locals don't even think twice about it- I had to explain what I was looking for to the locals because apparently "Medieval wall," didn't ring a bell! The neighborhood inside was pretty cool too, full of shops and activities outside the city's downtown area. The wall was huge though! I didn't even make it all the way around before turning around.
I also wanted to point out how influential the mudejar architecture is, especially since this area was first settled by the Moors. Even their regular buildings show the detailing that I have become so accustomed to.
I just made a 75 page photo album during the last two days (great coupon), so I am looking forward to that making it home before I do! It is still missing a bunch of Sevilla, but it captured all of my favorite pictures so far. Other than that, I will just be hanging out in Sevilla again this weekend (then it's off to Barcelona for the next weekend). However, I am going to a Betis vs. Real Madrid game, which should be a ton of fun! Best soccer in the world.
